Forbidden Fruit
A starry night cries for a second chance of heart,
No one knows where to pick up and re-start,
As she gazes uncertain to a new day up ahead,
She slowly realizes all her emotions are dead,
The dreams of a dreamer left undreamt and unspoken,
She hands the locket off, as if to pass on the token,
She no longer feels the same desire to hold her own self back,
Realizing that all along, for him her emotions did lack,
It was true loves cure that made her see,
Just how things should, were meant to be,
As she wrote a note quickly to whisper her good-byes,
The pen wouldn’t touch the paper and she didn’t know why,
Dear lover, I’m sorry things had to be this way,
They flowed in her mind, but hurt too much to say,
As she tosses the pen aside left with nothing but nerves,
She holds her head steady, wondering what she deserves,
A single tear dances off her lashes, off her check,
Makes contact to the paper, as her feelings start to leak,
She’s undone, she’s broken, she wants nothing from this world,
But a true love bespoken, as she awaits for it to unfurl,
No one should ever have to deal with such a pain,
But she knows that by lying, they’ve both got nothing to gain,
As she gazes up and around the room, trying to soothe her soul,
She looks for something, anything, to fill this empty hole,
The locket stares back, and brings another tear,
The memories flash back from the past year,
The feeling she seeks, is what she’s running from,
But it’s not her fault she has finally grown numb,
She wants the love of another, whom cannot be forgotten,
A forbidden fruit of lust, which she will not let go rotten,
So as she slowly rises up, and makes her way to the door,
A feeling of cold washes over, as she’s not welcome any more,
A car rides up, the dust flies over, as she gazes back one last time,
To a time when peace, when love was true, to her last real divine.
